Hi, I'm auctioning off an original stoneware platter next week on eBay, proceeds to benefit my enrollment in the Polish Breeders Club and, hopefully, SPPA.

Dimensions are 7 x 12 inches, material is hand carved and glazed oven-safe stoneware. The decoration in the center depicts a White Crested Black Polish hen looking at a stem of wheat; relief panels along the sides of the platter repeat the wheat motif.

My inspiration for this piece was from a recent visit to the Indianapolis Art Museum, where I was struck by several of the Art Nouveau objects in the museum's decorative arts collection. Chickens have been an underused motif in art, but herons and waterlilies really can't compete with a Polish hen :-)

I'm posting this here first in order to hopefully stir up some interest! :-)

I'm also happy to take commissions, for other stoneware objects and / or chicken subjects.

Best regards,

KR

That's a great piece of work!  It's amazing the number of artists in this club. Be sure to post the link to the auction when you upload it

Very Nice! How much are you hoping to get for it?

This is a very lovely platter.

How well did you do with it on ebay.

I would think something like this would be a great award for champions at some of the larger shows.

Perhaps you should send photos of this to some of the promoters of the larger shows.

Hello, Donna, actually I'm going to put it up on eBay tonight - this week has been kind of hectic and my auction plans had to wait.

:)

Thanks, everyone for your kind words.

In the end (back in September 2009), a relative prevailed on me to keep the platter and the auction never happened.

I've decided to give it another try, though.

Contacting a breed association about stoneware prizes sounds like a fantastic idea. :)

By the way, if anyone would like anything custom in stoneware, I would be very happy to take requests!

I wondered what happened to that plate.  I kept watching e-bay for it.  Let us know when you actually list it please!

Maybe naively, I hoped to get around $70 for the platter, comparable to how it would be priced at an art fair... as nobody's bid so far, and I can still change the starting price, please let me know if you are interested and what you would prefer as a starting bid...
