Hi, this may or may not be a health issue. I need help from you to find out. I have a Buff Laced Polish roo that constantly makes a strange noise in his throat, [I guess that's where it comes from] sort of a rattle or growl. He is healthy and active and very smart and playful and he makes this noise a lot, I'm not sure if it his way of talking or voicing his opinion or if he might have a cold or something. He is the first Polish I have gotten and he hasn't been here long, so I don't know if maybe this is normal???? I raise Silkies, maybe he is laughing at them? Thanks for any and all help! if he is young it could just be him trying to crow. if he is older could just be a bird makin g a werid sound. I have some that make the oddest sounds!

Thanks for the reply Jeremy, Now that they are getting settled in and used to the place I notice that the hen and roo both talk all the time. They make a much different noise than any other chickens I ever had. I like it really, it is a content sound, and they seem quite happy in with the Silkies. I know all ready that these crested birds really grow on you and above all others I have a desire to name them! I usually don't name the chickens but the personalities of these Polish is so great that they need a name for each of them. I also want to say that I like this Club, there is a lot of information offered here, and I appreciate it. Thanks again for the quick and helpful reply, Cheryl

Just wanted to report that the sounds have stopped! I think they were just talking to them selves and "muttering" if birds do that. Now he crows loudly......maybe he was just testing things to see if the Silkie roo was going to take offense at him. They are all getting alonbg fine, even sleeping all together in the sun in a big pile yesterday in the yard. I'm so tickl;ed with these sweet mild mannered birds!
