Mites are sooo hard to get rid of. Some of my birds had them last year and I dusted them with Seven garden dust and it worked really good at first. It wasn't long and I saw them again, but the Seven did nothing to them. I ended up trying several different things with no help. Finally I contacted Dr. Peter Brown with www.featherfanciers.com or www.statevetsupply.com and he recommended Frontline spray. I don't eat any of my eggs or eat my birds. It isn't recommended for those who eat their eggs or the birds. We are mite free!!! Contact him...he will help you out!
Good Luck! | |

I agree with Sundy and the frontline is the best thing that I have found as well. Keep up on the little buggers cause they will take a birds down in no time

I use the topical spot-on type Frontline. ) 0.1cc applied directly to the crest to a bantam, 0.3cc to a large fowl. I do this with all new arrivals and treat all my birds if we have been to a fair or show.

Does it keep the mites off for good? How often do you re-apply it?

I treat every bird once. Works like a charm. I've never had to reapply, but I can't speak for those of you down South where the bugs are tougher.

The main points are to treat all your birds, whether you see mites or not, so there is no reservoir for reinfestation.

I was talking to Kathy Troxell at the National and she said that, if it weren't for Frontline, she wouldn't have Polish. I heartily agree.

Frontline is not available in Canada I have been using Revolution (sealamectin) would you say Frontline is better? I could make the trip over to get it if it is. Stella

You can get revolution but not frontline? I would stick with the revolution. If I could get it without a prescription, that is what i would use!

I have been tempted to try Revolution on my birds, but have not. The quantity is much smaller and I was concerned about being able to measure it accurately. How much are you using on your bantams and what concentration? (Unlike Frontline, the concentration of Revolution does change in different size packages.)

I buy the largest box for value. (plum coloured box) at 120 mgs per ml strength I put it in a red top tube and dose it at 0.05 per kg (or 0.02 per lb) I measure it with a 1 ml syringe and pull it up with a 27gauge needle then leave the needle in the rubber top and apply with just the syringe. I store the tube in a ziplock bag between uses as the evaporation rate is very rapid. Works well on killing mites but we have a real problem with reinfestation from wild sparrows etc so I use it more than once. Which is why I was wondering about the length of protection you were getting from the Frontline?
