Hi there,

I am going to start hatching my own eggs this year and want to know what I might expect to get.

I have the following:

White crested blue - cock

Silver laced black - cock

White crested splash - hen

Buff laced - hen

Which pairs would be best to try to breed together and which colour chicks should I get. Is there any way i could tell the sex of the chicks by their colour?

I am a bit new to all of this....

Thanks

Hi Pipples - I'm rather new too but this is what I think: you should only breed like varieties, i.e. breed the white crested blue cock to the white crested splash hen (the splash is an offshoot of the blue breeding), the silver laced (black?) cock should only be bred to a silver laced hen, buff lace to buff lace. If you are interested in preserving and improving the beautiful and unique Polish varieties, like we are, please keep them separate. Also, you will not be able to tell their sex by color.

I would agree with Sherry. Trying to create a color is one thing, but to throw them all together is another. Buy some extra stock and try to breed true.
