Yes. It's a superior product. 0.1cc per bantam, 0.3cc per large fowl. (This is the spot-on not spray product, obviously.)

Thanks Cindy Can I pick your brain though...? I was wondering what the addition of the Methoprene does? If the Fipronil kills the parasites how does the methorene get to work on preventing reproduction if they are already dead? Or am I overthinking this? Thanks for any clarity you can bestow on me LOL I ordered some Frontline plus from a mail order along with some Quest gel for my horses and will see if it arrives without interference at the border. The last order of dewormed got opened and inspected then sent through okay. I think its wise to try to rotate products. Thanks also for the dosages, thats very helpful.

I don't think the Methoprene does much for our birds. It is pretty specific for fleas. It doesn't hurt them though. I always use Frontline Plus just because we sell it at the clinic, but I'm sure regular Frontline works as well.

Got my Frontline with no problems it arrived at the post office and I picked it up, no trouble with the border at all. Yeah! So I did all the birds today. Thanks again Cindy for your dosages they were bang on and easy to do.

Update: This works great! Though I think I will err on the side of caution and rotate the products to avoid resistance build up.

Out of lack of choice used the Frontline Plus, went w/a slightly smaller dose (.2cc) on the LF and it worked great!! Now the question is how often does one treat? Or only upon seeing the little mites making return visit? Again thank you for the tip!

I treat every bird that goes to a show, then, if I see mites on anybody, I treat everybody.

Cindy How often are you seeing the mites?
I brought home some nasty vent mites from the last show we went to so I guess I will follow your rule.
Do you treat before they go to the show or after they get home?

I generally have Frontlne in my grooming kit and put a dose on everybody at coop out. One time I used Ivermectin, which should work equally well, but it didn't and I had a problem with crest mites in the birds that had gone a few weeks later. Now I stick to Frontline or Revolution, whichever I have with me. You would think that shows would be relatively safe, with the birds next to you being bathed and clean, but this is not the case. Fairs are the worst because a lot of backyard people enter and the birds may be loaded with lice or mites. I am the vet who checks in birds at our local fair. We used to just require birds to be sprayed or dusted if we saw parasites but now we have a zero tolerance policy and send them home. We had the judges complaining about mites crawling all over them as they were judging and, of course, the judge's clothing could even transmit the mites. We make a few kids cry every year, but I don't think there's anything else to do.

Jon I that would be excessive as the birds organs have to get rid of the toxins we put into them.
Thanks Cindy | |
