Hi Becky, welcome to my world of breeding birds that won;t win at the shows, LOL, These are such unique birds, It's really a shame more people don't raise these, there were some nice ones on egg.bid a few days ago, I sent the people an e-mail to try to find out more info, but got no reply, maybe they will repost them, I'm not really a big fan of black or white chickens, soooo this year I'm going to make millie fleur sultans, plus large blacks, should be interesting!!!!

OOooo, mille fleur sultans. Yes, I think those would be really pretty. I am working on mille fleur Japanese. I am not a big fan of black and white chickens either, but I do like to see new colors created.

Doug, Sultans can win!!!!!!!!. I have several starred wins with them and keith Wagoner has won the Master Breeder ABA award with the whites. Any breed and/or color can win if they are good enough. It just takes dedication and time to win with the sultans.

Hi Glen, I was hoping you'd jump on here!! I'm glad you still raise these birds. and of course I know that some people have won with these, It just seems like there is such a lack of dedication to all the great varieties [breeds] that are included in our club, right now my goal is to bring a bunch of sultans and a lot of new colors to Indianapolis in 2011, hope to see you there!!

I have been working for several years now trying to recreate the sultan bantams using the formula that Dale Rice used when he made the original American line. I am still several years away on most colors. The whites are getting close to what we had back in the 1980s. The black females are relatively close also, but the male are a long way off. The blues and splash are still a project. Sultans are a long range project. I think it is a disservice to the breed to put them out prior to being ready for the standard. It takes YEARS>

Glen, I've been messing around a little with some white bantam sultans, perhaps you could let me know if you ever find yourself with an extra male?

I haven't seen any hatcheries with large sultans just bantams. Are there pictures here on the site of the black ones? I may have asked you to see them before- I asked someone one time on another site for pictures of black sultans.

I got a large fowl sultans from McM this year- thought I might find one the kids could show just at 4H level. Ha! Giving the last one away today- all trash. Maybe if I'd ordered 25....
