Its pretty quiet in here so I thought I would post and see what everyone is up to? We are hitting a heat wave here so have the fans and misters going but I am sure our heat pales in comparison to some of your places.
The fairs are starting up here and I plan on showing birds at the sanctioned ones.
Next Years APA Canadian National is in BC again this time in the town of Vernon, in November I believe, I was thinking we should see if we can get some Polish out for that for sure. There are so few here in Canada!
How are the rest of you doing?

It's a regular heat wave here in Tacoma, WA. 93 degrees. We had a nice vacation to the Grand Canyon but returned to find 13 of my 12 year old son's best birds killed by a cat which had found a tiny weakness in the top of the pen. Sadly, I had deliberately put all his best birds in that pen precisely because I felt it was the most secure. The caretaker did not notice the losses until only 2 birds were left. My Polish are fine, but all of his show-quality araucana are gone- a big loss.

Oh Cindy How awful.......tell him I am sorry too. Its one of those things we always say For every vacation someone dies. But to have it be his best show prospects really sucks. I do hope the last two are really hot. We lost an old polish hen today. It was 35 degrees C here today and that 95 F which is plenty hot enough. These heat waves are always hardest on the old whether its people or birds.

Thats too bad Jon a Bald Eagle is a formidable predator. We have a lot of eagles, hawks, ravens and owls here as well so all my outdoor runs are netted over.
I hope you found the hole in the fence so no one else gets out. Once a predator has eaten at a spot they consider it a "lunch counter" and are always checking back to see what the "daily special" is.

ya it was a hole at the edge of the neting to small for a bald eagle to get throuh but big enough for a hen to get out.
