Hi, I have for sale a nice 1 1/2 year old Crèvecoeur rooster, with glossy black feathers and very nicely shaped V comb.
He has just molted / is just finishing his molt and his plumage is fresh and attractive.

This bird is from Sandhill, and he's one of the best of the group I raised last year. I would like him to go to a good home... and if you are interested in raising a flock of Crèvecoeurs, I will be happy to send hatching eggs next spring to keep him company, or some chicks if you're ever out this way.

My schpiel about the Crèvecoeur... it's a crested breed from France, one of the oldest French breeds, probably dating to well before 1800. Unlike other crested breeds, the crest is "combed back" in shape so the feathers leave the eyes free. The plumage color is a glossy black with green highlights. The comb is called "crête à corne" in French, "horn shaped comb" because it looks like a pair of horns. It is an old peasant breed, good at taking care of itself and foraging on free-range. Birds are excellent fliers and will sleep in a tree if you let them, however, like any chicken they need protection from predators at night. The hens are good layers of white eggs. The breed is also surprisingly cold hardy, though I would be happier knowing that this guy will have a comfy barn or chicken coop when the weather gets snowy..

He has a nice temperament, especially for a Crèvecoeur! He has never acted aggressive toward me in any way, and has been known to "call" to the other roosters in his pen to share his food treats. I am reluctant to sell him but have more than 10 roosters at this point, more than I really need for my breeding program and I need to make some space.

I'm located in northwest Indiana, about midway between Chicago and Indianapolis, if you want to pick up on your way somewhere.

I'm also happy to deliver, if you live somewhere nearby.

I've never shipped a live bird before, but just let me know if you would want to do that, I can certainly look into it (I think I'd need a special box).

Image coming shortly...

His crest feathers are stll growing in: Here's a close-up,

...and here's a shot from last fall, showing his crest as a cockerel:

Now that I'm reviewing them, I notice that some of his saddle feathers are growing in with a hint of straw at the tip. So, he's not "show ready"; but still a nice bird.

Well, his molt is well and truly over now, so I have some much better photos.

I have him up for auction, at $20. Hope someone's interested, he has a great personality, and I'd like him to find a good home.
