Hints..... it depends on what you are shooting for. Neither are standard colors. Most people would say to eat them, but the colors do intrigue me. What are you trying to do?

your first male it is hard to tell what the bird is (colorwise). It appears to be a splash with red leaking through. the white legs do raise questions. The second bird is similar to the lemon blue pattern, however the red in the flight feathers suggest this bird is closer to being a blue partridge. not standard colors in either case and I've not known anyone working seriously on these colorations. I tried to make lemon blues at one point, but could not get the proper coloration in the females.

Thank you for your comments. I will take pictures of some other birds and post soon. I am just learning about genetics and obiously made some unusually breeding choices the last two years. I need to be more serious and scientific this year. I hope to get some birds of a quality to work with. Please help me understand what is ment by red leaking through? What varieties have white legs? I am not familiar with lemon blue pattern or blue partridge. I did have the multi color with black tail, chocolate tail and khaki in the males. The females looked like solid color white crested in those colors. Probably the females were not good colors but I had males that seemed like good matings. I was trying to get blues. It is ovious that I did not know much about genetics. I kept some of the males because they are so attractivein in the sun and calm pets. I do not know enough about genetics to know how the pattern and color showed up. I have been using the Polish Breeders Club genetics information. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you Sharon

Hi Sharon, Your splash bird shows yellowing and/or red tint in the saddle, shoulder and hackle feathers (back, shoulder and neck). This is the same thing that occurred in your blue bird. If the red was not there he'd be a white crested blue. The only varieties allowed to have white legs are cuckoos and creles due to the barring genes making it impossible for the birds to have blue legs, which is the standard color. Here's the lemon blue pattern: and the blue partridge pattern (actually this picture is a blue red but the males are almost identical in these two patterns). notice how these birds have color in their flight feathers on the wing whereas the lemon blues do not:

I love the Red Blues! I have a few that I like. Still working on them, even though they are not a standard color.
