There were quite a few bantam Polish at the Stevenson show- 4 exhibitors and, (once again I forgot to count and fill out the show paperwork) I'm guessing 20-25 Polish. None went beyond BB, but there were 4 of those, which I found interesting. I asked the judge if he'd meant to mark 4 birds BB (a bearded white cockerel, a bearded frizzle buff-laced hen, a wc black hen, and a wc black frizzle pullet) or if he meant BV. No, he assured me, bearded and non-bearded Polish were 2 separate breeds, as were the frizzles, and I should look it up. Interesting. I was annoyed in the youth show as, for the second time in 3 months, a WC Chocolate pullet of ours was knocked out of the running by a judge who did not think it was a recognized variety. I asked him why the Ch. AOCCL had been crossed out and he said that he'd had his steward look it up in the ABA manual and decided it was AOV. I then showed him the entry for WC Chocolate and he apologized, saying that he received poor information so, for good measure, I made sure he knew about WC Khakis and Cuckoos, too. Judges education seminars here- one passed over bird at a time. Bet I'm not the only one... | |
