Hello fellow Polish Club members! Just wanted to give everyone a "heads up" regarding another bid for our 2012 National. The Lawrence Co. Poultry Club / (a.k.a.) Davy Crockett Classic in Lawrenceburg, TN, which hosted our National in 2009, is again in the process of submitting a bid for our National Championship. I was pleased when I felt that they "rolled out the red carpet" for us last time, and am sure similar things might be in the works this time, also. Lawrenceburg is the quintessential small Southern town with beautiful rural scenery and lots of Tennessee hospitality, and I know everyone who showed there the last time seemed to enjoy themselves. Also, I don't think that the dates for this year's show conflict with any other major show, which was a concern the last time. One of the judges already scheduled is Jim Adkins from California; I can't specifically remember the other one. Anyway, just wanted to let y'all know!...

Hey Jacob! I had fun at the TN show too, and Crossroads was awesome but, just want to say would a bid for a West Coast National have a chance too? If so, how does one go about it? There are getting to be a lot of us Polish types over here in Starbucks Land. Would some of you Southern types come our way if we bid? I don't know if our club rotates areas for the National as other clubs do but, if not, maybe it's time for a change???

Hello Cynthia, great to hear from you! I'll never forget how you bailed me out at Indianapolis last year and kept my beloved Sultan rooster from turning blue! As for California hosting a Polish National...it's my opinion that it is only a matter of time until this happens. It all has to do with the changing regional demographics of our club. Remember the big deal that was made during last year's census about America's fast-changing ethnic demographies? It has occurred to me several times that the same thing has been happening in the Polish Club, and when I compared our 2010 Club Directory with the one from 2007(-ish), that seemed to indeed be the case. California seems to be tacking on new members at a rate that well exceeds any other part of the country (and the more the merrier!). There is, of course, strength in numbers, and so it seems inevitable (I say that word in its positive sense!) that the Californian and other "Golden Coast" members of the Polish Club will have enough votes to get a show of their choice, probably sooner rather than later. Who knows? Y'all might could even pull it off this year, given that the Eastern vote is now split 3 ways between Wisconsin, Michigan, and Tennessee. I am a full-time college student who takes at least one day of the weekend every week to study for the next week's classes, so any show more than a day's drive away is out of the question for me. It seems like the best bet for you guys right now would be to wait until the ABA or APA has their National out West again (as one of them did a few years ago), then get the same show to bid for the Polish National as well. Just one person's thoughts... Anyone else out there have an opinion?

Hope school is going well for you, Jacob! Maybe we can get Jim to put that in the newsletter: How about a vote on moving the National to different sections of the country each year. Anyway, I had lots of fun in Tennessee. I don't know that it's in the budget to go again so soon, but it was a good show.

Thanks for the well-wishes, Cynthia! I can definitely empathize with what you're saying: after all, the Polish National has been in Ohio how many times now?

I'd say split the states into 4 or 6 regions and then rotate. Of course, it's up to the director of that region to submit bid or bids when their year comes along. That's what most clubs do, I believe.

Cynthia, I talked to a Polish Club officer recently, and apparently Jim Parker is planning on getting the ballots mailed out for the National vote sometime next week (along with the new Directory for the January newsletter edition). This person seemed to think that the Cal Contingent has enough numbers that they could vote in any National they wanted to right now, if their members would actually vote. (I take it that very few do.) However, I'm also hearing some very good news for the West coast. I think the Seaside Feather Fanciers / "Bash at the Beach" has the 2013 ABA National, and I am told they have submitted a bid for the Polish National as well! Your dreams may come true sooner than expected!

If I remember correctly, at Indy, the ABA placed the next National at Stockton CA. I suspect the meet will be in Jan. 2013. I may be wrong, but that is my memory.

Glen, Thanks for the correction--you're right. I should start recording my telephone conversations! I'm almost certain (now that you said that) the ABA national is at Stockton, not Ventura. Jacob Bratcher

So you're saying the Polish National is this month in Stockton!!! I thought it was just a regional. Well, it's great that I got talked into going then! (Even if the birds aren't looking too hot after all this snow and ice and mud.)

Cynthia, Hate to dash your hopes, but apparently no. Glen was saying the ABA National was for the 2013 show season (not necessarily the year 2012, but the 2012-2013 show season which runs from fall-early spring.) According to him ( and I have no reason to doubt it) this ABA National and potential Polish National will be in January of 2013. That's the way I'm understanding it, anyhow. Is that right, Glen?

Hi everyone - I'm the Western District director and am a part of PPBA so hopefully I have these facts correct.... PPBA will be hosting the California State meet next weekend on January 28-29, 2012 in Stockton. They have been awarded the ABA National meet on January 26-27, 2013. I am so glad that there are so many California members now that we can consider a west coast national! (Just recruited another 3 in the last 2 months!) California has 8 shows with PPBA being the biggest with about 2,200 entries each year. It would be a good choice if indeed the west coast gets our PBC National. Actually, all of our shows are great and will be good hosts. There's also a show in Stevinson, WA and I have heard a lot of great comments on their show. The Western District also has a show in Reno, NV in early December. That would be a fun show but maybe a bit of trouble when the showroom closes. I'm sure Jim Parker can look at our past discussions regarding the location of the National and wether it should rotate then we can all discuss further and vote. Sound good?
