I just talked with Shelia Clanton, secretary of the Davy Crockett Classic.  They have hired Gary Overton of Ohio to judge our National.  That is good news.

I just received word that the Silkie club has placed their National at Lawrenceburg also.  With all the crested breeds there, It should be quite a show.

I'm planning to go to  the Nationals but I haven't seen any information at all on where the show will actually be held and any other information about it.

Am I missing something on this site?  I thought we were going to get more information in August or September.

Thanks.

Karen

Hi Glen,

The only thing I can find under Nationals is the same page I've seen since early summer where it shows the host motel and the date.  Is the show being held at the motel?  If so, what time does it start and end?  I need to know what time to be there and what time I should plan to leave.

Am I supposed to click on something else that I can't find?

Note concerning Nationals Details:

The link for the motel hasn't been working lately.  I called them yesterday to check on room availability and they said there were plenty available but since that time I've decided to drive up and back in the same day.  It's hard to imagine that they would have facilities there for a chicken show but I guess it's possible.  I couldn't see that in the photos I saw last summer.

I just got back from Lawrenceburg and the 2009 Polish National.  Numbers were no where near what was promised to the Davy Crocket Club but the quality was high and the members who attended seemed to enjoy the show.  We were well treated by the local club.

There were about 100 bantams shown and Kathy Troxell was the big winner with a beautiful White Crested black pullet.  The pullet went on to be Champion Overall Polish and Champion AOCCL.  Kathy also had reserve bantam Polish with a White Crested Blue.  Larry Glen had reserve White Crested black with a hen.   Kathy had best and reserve in Bearded White.  Larry had best Brd. Buff Laced and I had reserve.  Larry had best and reserve brd. golden.  Channing Grissom had best Polish Frizzle with a buff laced.  There were other varieties shown, but I did not get the results.  Sylvia has a complete rundown.

In large Polish, there were about 40 shown.  Sylvia had best with a bearded white.  She also had Champion Polish frizzle which was also reserve large Polish.

The only negative of the show was the lack of attendence and support by the club officers and directors.  Only President Sylvia Babus showed up and she conducted a very good club meeting which was well attended.  Sylvia, her husband, Bella, the Beebees and Grissoms ran a very good club table at the show.  If our club is to grow and become the club we want, we are going to have to have more support from our officers and directors.  Being an officer in name only just will not get it done.

Again, great show, congratulations to the winners.  Thanks to everyone who attended.

This was just wonderful for me!! Not only did I get to attend one national but two in one, Polish and Silkie national! I did get to show in both. In the Polish I showed a LF brd white frizzle pullet that took 1 and RV, a LF brd white pullet that took 1 and a LF brd white cockerel that took 2.  AWESOME birds is all I can say to all of you who showed!!!!

In Silkies I showed 3 blue pullets that took 1,2,3, BV, Rv. I showed 2 white cockerels that took 1 and 3rd. I also showed a blue partridge that took 1, BV and res. AOV. My daughter showed in Jr.s a blue pullet that took 1, BV. She showed a white cockerel that took 1, BV, so she did well too.

It was nice to put faces with names and have the oppertunity to have dinner with those of you who were able to make it. You all are a great group. Thank you for all who took the time to help me and to give me pointers. You are priceless!

Hello well another Nationals down. It was great to see alot of my old friends and some new ones as well. A big congrates goes out to Kathy for her lovely Bantams as well as Larry Glen and Glen Cryer. Sylvia had her Large fowl in very nice shape. The meeting went well and the dinner was great. There were a few things that were mentioned that the club needs to work to get done. Again a big thanks to all the breeders that showed there birds and attented the show.

Thanks

I'm glad to hear that the show went well for those who were in attendance. I had really hoped to be there, but since my student loans are squeezing every extra penny out of me a trip of that magnitude was unfortunately not possible.  Congratulations to all who placed this year. Hope to see you all at next year's national!

Hi,

I think some of the problem might have been that the Ohio show was the same weekend. Glad to hear though that the quality ig birds were still good!

I had a marvelous time as a birdless attendee at the show. It was great to meet everyone I know only by phone or forum. I enjoyed the Southern hospitality also.  I think I have a better idea of what to breed for in my own birds and I'm excited to try out Glen's pop-bottle waterers.

Thanks everyone!

I'm so sad I wasn't able to attend. The flight or drive there from California was simply out of the question.  :(  Can't wait to see pictures of all the great Polish!

Yes, I'm sure we ALL would have liked to attend the Nationals. However, with the ecomomy the way it is and everyone pinching pennies, for some of us it was impossible and have to be satisfied this year with attending only local shows. I refuse to let go of any of my stock to have money for shows. My birds come first, the shows come second. I travel to these shows alone and a trip that length is out of the question for me these days unless I can get a family member to travel with me. I was lucky last year when my son expressed an interest in attending the Polish Nationals. I was layed off work for several months but still managed to scrape enough money together to keep all my birds. Thank goodness for that! So, I am sure we all understand why many Polish breeders could not attend! Times are tough, no doubt.
