About Me

We have backyard chickens in the city and all the troubles that go with that.  Mostly, keeping chickens is a type of therapy for me, and I've found it really is keeping me going and more active.  I'm much happier, though I'm causing much havok in the neighborhood and in the house!  But my family is being very supportive (the kids are learning about how to keep animals and are enjoying their eggs)  And hubby has said I've improved much since starting this, and seem happier, so it's been great!

I've fallen in love with my Crevecoeurs, which I didn't expect.  I  plan on hatching some eggs this spring and hopefully increase my hens.  I don't have enough layers, and Crevies are supposed to be good seasonal layers.  Plus I think they're beautiful.  I've become interested in improving my stock on my own, see what I can do with what I have!  It should be fun!

We also have bantam sultans as well as a few leghorns and seramas.  I thought I'd like to delve into the Sultans, but like I said, the Creves stole my heart.  I love all these birds though, for all their different personalities.  Some more as pets (Seramas and Sultans) and the others for utility (leghorns and Creves) though I must say my leghorns and creves are amazingly sweet, though they don't always want to be picked up, they'll cuddle once you have them, and a couple of my leghorns actually WANT to be picked up and cuddled and get jealous of others!  LOL.

Are you still active on the site? I saw your comparison of black polish vs. crevecours. I have some black polish from a friend that I suspect have crev blood in them. They are shorter and stockier than my WC black polish, and have smaller crests and bigger combs. I plan to breed them to WC polish to "fix" their type (will screw up color in the process) but wondering if some of the original stock might be of interest to crev breeders down the line.
